To order glasses with prescription lenses, all we need is your current prescription, which states your lens power (Sphere, SPH or RX), pupillary distance (PD of far PD) and if applicable the degree of astigmatism (Cylinder or CYL) and angle of astigmatism (AXI or AXIS). If you would like to order reading or varifocal glasses then we also need your reading addition (ADD).

If you don't have a current prescription, you can do an eye test at a local optician. When taking an eye test, don’t forget to request a copy of your prescription to bring home with you.

It is also possible to place your order and send us your prescription details at a later time. We will then reserve the frames for you and start producing your glasses as soon as we have all your details complete.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
You can check the progress of your order by logging into your Ace & Tate account on our website. If you then click on “Orders” in the menu on the left side of the page, you can check the current status of your glasses. Furthermore, you can also see an expected delivery date in the confirmation email that you received after placing the order.

If you have had an eye test:

If you have already had an eye test, then it may be that you already have a prescription that lists your sphere (SF or SPH), pupillary distance (PD) and possibly the presence of astigmatism (C or CYL) and an axis (A, As, AXI, AXS or AXIS). You will need this prescription to order glasses. If you want to order reading or varifocal glasses then you will also need the reading addition (ADD).

If you do not know your prescription, it can be measured by an optician or optometrist by means of an eye test. Do not forget to take a copy of your prescription home with you after your test.

We offer free appointment based eye-tests in all of our stores. You can plan in an appointment here.
The following information must be on your prescription:

  • The sphere (S, SF or SPH) and/or cylinder value of each eye (C or CYL)
  • If there is a cylinder value, there must also be an axis value (A, As, AXI, AXS or AXIS). Please note that not everyone has a cylinder, so this information might not be on your prescription. If not, please fill in the cylinder and axis as 0.
  • The pupillary distance (PD) of each eye

When you want to order a pair of varifocal or reading lenses, we also need your reading addition (ADD).

It is also possible to place your order and send us your prescription details at a later time. We will reserve the frames for you and start with your new pair as soon as we have all your details complete.
There a few different ways for you to submit your prescription during the order process:

  • You can fill in the prescription yourself
  • You can upload a picture of your prescription
  • You can choose the option to send us your prescription later. You can send us your prescription to hello@aceandtate.com once you’ve obtained it.

If you’re having trouble filling in your prescription, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
We’re afraid not – contact lens prescriptions are not the same as spectacles prescriptions. As contact lenses sit on your eyes, and lenses of glasses sit before your eyes, they vary in strength. In order to make sure that you will receive a pair of frames that you can use comfortably, it is necessary to use a prescription that is specifically measured for glasses.
Yes – as glasses wearers ourselves, we pride ourselves on offering a serious range for all prescriptions, and not just for the amateur appreciator of eyewear. We make prescription lenses with a sphere (SPH) up to -10.00 or +10.00 and a cylinder up to -4.00 or +4.00.

For prescriptions stronger than 3.25, we use high-index lenses. This lens is slimmer, and won’t warp the size of your eyes as the standard lens does at this prescription. We don't charge any additional costs for this option and we will use the same lenses for both eyes.

If you have any additional questions about your prescription or our lenses, please feel free to contact us.
Yes! We make prescription lenses with a maximum cylinder between -4.00 and +4.00. In order for us to be able to make your lenses we just need the values of your cylinder (C or Cyl) and the axis (A, AXI, AXS). We charge no additional costs for a cylinder, so you will never pay more than the price that is stated on our website.
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to provide lenses for prescriptions with a prism correction. The measurement is prone to error, and if not done correctly, it can increase the affliction. Prism correction makes an assessment involving binocular research, which is not specified in a standard eye measurement.

However, it is possible and relatively simple to buy Ace & Tate frames without lenses, and have lenses with prism correction inserted by your optician. We are able to offer a 10% discount on this option. Select ‘single vision lenses’ and then ‘No lenses’ at checkout. The discount will then automatically be applied to your order.
Yes, we definitely offer varifocal glasses. Varifocal (sun)lenses allow you to see clearly at every distance without you having to carry around and swap your frames for different uses.

Varifocal lenses provide a smooth transition from a prescription for distance (at the top of the lens) to a reading prescription (at the bottom of the lens). When looking through the lens, you can see long distances through the top, short distances through the bottom and use the middle part of the lens for everything in-between.

A pair of varifocal glasses including prescription lenses costs £219. The price for our varifocal sunglasses is £264.41. All of our lenses are produced with an anti-reflective coating, UV protection coating, anti-scratch coating and a dirt resistant coating.

Furthermore, we can ensure you that we use the thinnest glass possible based on your prescription for no additional costs.
All of our frames are available with special computer lenses. This type of lenses is perfect for those who want to use their glasses to both read and work behind their computer for longer periods. You will be able to clearly see your screen through the top part of the lens, while the bottom half of the lens will make sure you can read everything clearly. The width of the reading part is bigger than varifocal lenses, so this type of glasses is much more suited for long-term work behind a computer.

At the moment you can only order computer glasses in one of our stores. If you are unsure about your prescription you can always plan in a free eye test on our website so our optician can give advice on the perfect prescription for you.

AA pair of computer glasses including prescription lenses costs £219. The lenses are produced with an anti-reflective coating, UV protection coating, anti-scratch coating and a water- and dirt resistant coating.

All of our glasses are made with high quality synthetic (CR-39) lenses. We apply a protective anti-scratch layer to minimize the chance of scratches, as well as a 100% UV protection coating to protect your eyes from harmful UV light. Our optical lenses and prescription sun lenses also feature a multi-layer anti-reflection coating. Your glasses are custom made in Amsterdam to your exact requirements by a professional lenses laboratory - one of the leading producers of prescription lenses in the Netherlands for over 90 years.
Sometimes your glasses won’t feel comfortable right out of the box. This can easily be solved by slightly adjusting the temples of the frames. We can adjust your frames free of charge and without an appointment in all of our stores. Just walk in at any time and we’ll make sure you leave the store with a pair of perfect fitting glasses.

If you do not live close to one of our stores then you can always go to a local optician to get your temples adjusted. Most opticians will be happy to help you, sometimes for a small fee.

The following issues can be solved by adjusting the temples of your frames.

  • The glasses are too tight or too loose behind your ears
  • The temples are too long or too short
  • The frames fit too tight on your nose or at the side of your head
  • The glasses sit a little crooked on your face while you wear it
The measurements of our frames can be found on the right side of the photo of the frames. Here you can see the width of the lenses, the length of the temples and the length of the nose bridge.
We’re proud to be involved in every step of the Ace & Tate production process. Our designers devise the collection in-house in our Amsterdam studio and all of our frames are handcrafted with great care from the highest quality materials in a family-owned workshop in Northern Italy. Teflon-coated screws and barrel hinges ensure our frames have a refined toughness and durability. Our lenses are custom made in Amsterdam to your exact requirements by a professional lenses laboratory - one of the leading producers of prescription lenses in the Netherlands for over 90 years. Before we send out an Ace & Tate frame, it will be checked and polished until it passes all of our quality requirements.
By cutting out the margins. Ace & Tate customers pay for design, and quality, and nothing else.

Glasses wearers ourselves, we founded Ace & Tate on the premise that high quality, high fashion eyewear doesn’t have to command a high price. We eliminate third-party markups, middlemen and license margins. Each Ace & Tate frame originates from our Amsterdam design studio. Because we personally oversee each link in the production chain, we are able to offer uncompromising quality at an uncompromising price.

The optimal way to clean your lenses is with our microfibre cleansing cloth, delivered free of charge with any Ace & Tate order. Lenses can also be cleaned with lukewarm water and liquid soap. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Your lens is a delicate piece of medical equipment – treat it well, and avoid using paper towels, moist wipes or liquids which contain alcohol or other corrosives, as these substances may damage the lens coating.
With age, most people start to have trouble reading small text. This happens because the elasticity of your eye muscle weakens, which makes it more difficult to read small letters or to see objects up-close. The problem is easily solved by purchasing a pair of reading glasses, but what if you already wear prescription glasses for distance?

If this is the case, investing in a pair of frames with varifocal lenses is the perfect solution. With these you will have no trouble seeing clearly at either short or long distances and will never have to swap between different pairs of glasses again.

Varifocal (sun)lenses provide a smooth transition from a prescription for distance (at the top of the lens) to a reading prescription (at the bottom of the lens). When looking through the lens, you can see long distances through the top and short distances through the bottom and the middle part for everything in-between.
All of our varifocal lenses are produced with the innovative freeform digital surface technology. From this we are able to achieve highly customised and exceptionally accurate lenses for your unique prescription. Depending on your prescription, the index (thickness) of the glass will be adjusted for optimal results. Our lenses are more precise, comfortable and less vulnerable than traditional mineral lenses.

The lenses are custom-made in Amsterdam according to your exact requirements by a professional lenses laboratory - one of the leading producers of prescription lenses in the Netherlands for over 90 years.

When you receive a new pair of glasses, your eyes always have to adjust to the way you look through the lenses. This is especially true when you also got a new prescription in the lenses. The adjustment period can take up to a week for single focus lenses and up to two weeks for varifocal lenses. If your feel like you can’t immediately look comfortably through your new glasses then we would like to advise you to wear the glasses 3 full days in a row. By doing this you will give your eyes the time to get adjusted to the new lenses and most of the time you will notice that your viewing comfort will improve.

It’s also important that the focus point of the lenses is in the right position. We therefore would like to advise you to get your new glasses adjusted to your facial shape. We can do this free of charge in one of our stores. You can just stop by without an appointment and our retail assistants will adjust the temples of your frame. If you’re not able to visit one of our stores then you can always get the frames adjusted at a local optician.

If you’re still not completely happy with your new glasses after wearing them for a few days then it could be possible that your prescription needs a slight adjustment. In this case we advise you to visit the optician where you did the eye test. He or she can then check the lenses in your glasses and do a new eye test if needed. If it turns out that your prescription needs an adjustment and you are within the 30 days return period, then we will replace the lenses free of charge. You can contact us at hello@aceandtate.com so we can give you more information about the return process.
You always have to get used to a new pair of glasses. If this is your first pair of varifocal (sun)glasses then we would like to give you some tips so you can start to enjoy wearing your new frames as fast as possible.

The most important thing is that you need to adjust to the three sections and their location in the lens: the bottom part of the lens should be used for short distances and the top part should be used for you to see long distances. Always point the tip of your nose to the object you want to look at and be sure to keep your chin up while you are reading something. By doing this you’ll make sure that you’re using the correct part of the lens for every distance.

In contrast to single prescription lenses, you may experience some blurriness and small distortions at the edge of the lens while you are wearing varifocal lenses. It can take from a couple of hours up to a few weeks before you become completely used to your new glasses.

It’s possible that the frame might not sit correctly on your face at first try. If this is the case, we advise you to visit a local optician who can adjust the frames so they fit perfectly and make sure that you look correctly through the lenses.
If you are not completely happy with the frame that you received and would like to exchange it for another frame, then you can contact our customer service. We will provide you with a return label with which you can send back the glasses free of charge.

Once we have received your return in Amsterdam, we will start producing your new glasses and send the new pair your way as fast as possible. This way you never have to place a new order or make a new payment.

You can also always exchange or return your glasses in one of our stores.
In the unfortunate case that you’re not completely satisfied with your new glasses, you can return them to us within 30 days free of charge. You can contact us in order to request a return label with which you can return the glasses at no additional costs. Once we’ve received your glasses at our office in Amsterdam, we will exchange your glasses for another pair or will send you a full refund as soon as possible.
You can always return your glasses within 30 days from the moment that you receive the glasses. You can contact us in order to request a return label with which you can return the glasses at no additional costs.
