If you have had an eye test:

If you have already had an eye test then it may be that you already have a prescription that lists your sphere (SF or SPH), pupillary distance (PD) and possibly the presence of astigmatism (C or CYL) and an axis (A, As, AXI, AXS or AXIS). You will need this prescription to order glasses.

If you have not yet had an eye test:

If you do not know your prescription, it can be calculated by an optician or optometrist by means of an eye test. Do not forget to take a copy of your prescription home with you after your test.

The following information must be on your prescription:
  • The sphere (S, SF or SPH) and/or cylinder value of each eye (C or CYL)
  • If there is a cylinder value, there must also be an axis value (A, As, AXI, AXS or AXIS)
  • The pupillary distance (PD) of each eye
It is also possible to place your order and send us your prescription details at a later time. We will reserve the frames for you and start with your new pair as soon as we have all your details complete.
We’re afraid not – contact lens prescriptions are not the same as spectacles prescriptions. As contact lenses sit on your eyes, and lenses of glasses sit before your eyes, they vary in strength. For safety reasons, we cannot use contact lens prescriptions when taking orders for glasses and sunglasses.
Pupillary distance (indicated on your prescription as PD or far PD) is the distance in millimeters between your pupils. This is important for us to know in order to precisely position the optical centre of your lenses.

If your optician has provided you with a single number, simply divide this number in half to get your pupillary distance for your right side and left side.

If you cannot locate this information on your prescription, you can request the reading, or have your pupillary distance measured at an optician or eye doctor. You can also easily measure your pupillary distance yourself, download our PD measurement tool here.
A Cylinder or degree of astigmatism is a common deviation, wherein the eye has a slightly oval shape instead of circular. This may cause a field of your vision to be blurry, stretched or deformed in one direction. This is easy to correct with Ace & Tate lenses.

The Cylinder value is indicated on your prescription, usually as CYL.
The Axis indicates the angle of astigmatism. On your prescription this will be referred to as AXI or AXIS.
You can submit your prescription information during checkout, or alternatively, just send a picture or scan of your prescription to hello@aceandtate.com. Don't forget to include your name and contact details.

Enter the following information for your right (O.D.) and left (O.S.) eye:
  • Lens power (stated on your prescription as Sphere, SPH or RX)
  • Pupillary distance (stated on your prescription as PD, or far PD)
  • If applicable: degree of astigmatism (stated on your prescription as Cylinder or CYL)
  • If applicable: angle of astigmatism (stated on your prescription as AXI or AXIS)

For reading glasses you will only need to enter one + (positive) value (stated on your prescription as ADD)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at hello@aceandtate.com or 020 3514 2272 (Mon-Fri 9am-6pm GMT+1).
Yes. To order reading glasses, select ‘Reading glasses’ at checkout. When filing your prescription, you will only need to enter one + (positive) value (stated on your prescription as ADD), and no Cylinder or Axis values.
Yes – as glasses wearers ourselves, we pride ourselves on offering a serious range for all prescriptions, and not just for the amateur appreciator of eyewear.

For prescriptions stronger than -4 and +4, we use a high-index lens. This lens is slimmer, and won’t warp the size of your eyes as the standard lens does at this prescription. We don't charge any additional costs for this option. We will use the same lenses for both eyes.

If you have astigmatism (Cylinder), we can also provide you with glasses. We’ll need to know your Cylinder and Axis information.

We cannot fill prescriptions with a sphere (SPH) value stronger than -10.00 or +10.00, or with a cylinder (CYL) value stronger than +4.00 or -4.00. If you have a high prescription we might contact you to discuss the best options for your prescription.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at hello@aceandtate.com or 020 3514 2272 (Mon-Fri 9am-6pm GMT+1).

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to provide lenses for prescriptions with a prism correction. The measurement is prone to error, and if not done correctly, it can increase the affliction. Prism correction makes an assessment involving binocular research, which is not specified in a standard eye measurement.

However, it is possible and relatively simple to buy Ace & Tate frames without lenses, and have lenses with prism correction inserted by your optician. We are able to offer a 10% discount on this option. Select ‘Non-prescription glasses’ and then ‘No lenses’ at checkout. The discount will automatically be applied to your order.
This simply means that you do not have astigmatism: most opticians will leave blank the prescription columns which are marked Cylinder (CYL) and Axis (AXI).
If you are not 100% satisfied with your glasses (with or without prescription), you can return them to us within 30 days, no questions asked. In the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, free return shipping is included. Furthermore, we offer a one-year guarantee on your glasses: if they are damaged through normal use during this period, we will equip you with a new pair.
It’s simple and free to return or exchange your glasses. Contact us at hello@aceandtate.com or 020 3514 2272 (Mon-Fri 9am-6pm GMT+1). As soon as we receive your request, we will send you a return freepost label for you to print and attach to the package.
Our lenses come with scratch-resistant coating as standard. If the lenses scratch within one year of purchase, we will be happy to replace them free of charge. Please contact us at hello@aceandtate.com or 020 3514 2272 (Mon-Fri 9am-6pm GMT+1).
As soon as we receive your package, we will send you a confirmation email. The money will be refunded to your credit or debit card as soon as possible, but always within 14 days.
Each Ace & Tate frame is fitted with synthetic single-vision lenses with an index of 1.5. Synthetic lenses are lighter and safer than lenses of mineral glass. All our lenses also come with scratch-resistant coating, anti-reflective coating and UV protection. This high-specification lens is the standard for all Ace & Tate frames.

The optimal way to clean your lenses is with our microfibre cleansing cloth, delivered free of charge with any Ace & Tate order. Lenses can also be cleaned with lukewarm water and liquid soap. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Your lens is a delicate piece of medical equipment – treat it well, and avoid using paper towels, moist wipes or liquids which contain alcohol or other corrosives, as these substances may damage the lens coating.
Varifocal lenses allow you to see clearly at every distance without you having to carry around and swap your frames for different uses.

Varifocal (sun)lenses provide a smooth transition from a prescription for distance (at the top of the lens) to a reading prescription (at the bottom of the lens). When looking through the lens, you can see long distances through the top and short distances through the bottom and the middle part for everything in-between.
With age, most people start to have trouble reading small text. This happens because the elasticity of your eye muscle weakens, which makes it more difficult to read small letters or to see objects up-close. The problem is easily solved by purchasing a pair of reading glasses, but what if you already wear prescription glasses for distance?

If this is the case, investing in a pair of frames with varifocal lenses is the perfect solution. With these you will have no trouble seeing clearly at either short or long distances and will never have to swap between different pairs again.
A pair of varifocal glasses including prescription lenses cost €248 / £219. The price for our varifocal sunglasses is €298 / £264.41. All of our lenses are produced with an anti-reflective coating, UV protection coating, anti-scratch coating and a dirt resistant coating.

Furthermore, we can ensure you that we use the thinnest glass possible based on your prescription but this will not affect the price mentioned above.
All of our varifocal lenses are produced with the innovative freeform digital surface technology. From this we are able to achieve highly customised and exceptionally accurate lenses for your unique prescription. Depending on your prescription, the index (thickness) of the glass will be adjusted for optimal results. Our lenses are more precise, comfortable and less vulnerable than traditional mineral lenses.

The lenses are custom-made in Amsterdam according to your exact requirements by a professional lenses laboratory - one of the leading producers of prescription lenses in the Netherlands for over 90 years.
Our varifocal lenses are equipped with the following coatings:

  • Anti-scratch: to reduce the chance of damage
  • Anti-reflective: for maximum viewing comfort and to increase the clarity of the lenses, preventing unpleasant reflections
  • Dirt resistance: to keep your lenses clear from dust, dirt and liquid to make cleaning the lenses easier
  • UV protection: to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays
Yes, we are happy to offer lenses for a wide range of prescriptions.

For prescriptions stronger than -4 and +4, we use a high-index lens. This lens is slimmer and won’t warp the size of your eyes as the standard lens does at this strength of prescription. We don't charge any additional costs for this option. We will use the same index for both eyes.

If you have astigmatism (Cylinder), we can also provide you with the varifocal option we just need to know your Cylinder and Axis information.

We cannot fill prescriptions with a sphere (SPH) value stronger than -8.00 or +8.00, or with a cylinder (CYL) value stronger than +4.00 or -4.00. If you have a high prescription, you can contact us to discuss your best options.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at hello@aceandtate.com or 020 35142272 (Mon-Fri 9am-6pm).
We just need to have your varifocal prescription in order to make a new pair of glasses for you. This prescription needs to contain the following information:

  • The sphere (S, SF or SPH) and/or cylinder value of each eye (C or CYL).
  • If there is a cylinder value, there must also be an axis value (A, As, AXI, AXS or AXIS).
  • The pupillary distance (PD) of each eye (divide value by two if only one value provided).
  • The reading addition (ADD) for each eye.
You always have to get used to a new pair of frames. If this is your first pair of varifocal(sun)glasses then we would like to give you some tips so that you can start to enjoy wearing your new frames.

The most important thing is that you need to adjust to the three sections and their location in the lens: the bottom part of the lens should be used for short distances and the top part should be used for you to see long distances. Always point the tip of your nose to the object you want to look at and be sure to keep your chin up while you are reading something. By doing this you’ll make sure that you’re using the correct part of the lens for every distance.

In contrast to single prescription lenses, when wearing varifocal lenses, you may experience some blurriness and small distortions at the edge of the lens. It can take from a couple of hours up to a few weeks before you become completely used to your new glasses.

It’s possible that the frame might not sit correctly on your face at first try. We then advise you to visit a local optician who can adjust the frames so they fit you properly and make sure that you look correctly through the lenses.
Because the prescription in a pair of varifocal lenses gradually changes from short-sighted to long-sighted, it is very common that you need to adjust to the way of looking through the glasses to see clearly at various distances.

If, after two weeks, you still feel that your eyes can’t get used to your new varifocal glasses, we advise you to re-visit the optician who took your eye test. He/she will then be able to check the lenses and do a new eye test based on your complaints. If it turns out that your prescription needs slight adjustment, we will replace the lenses free of charge.

In case you’re not satisfied with your new glasses for any other reason, you can return them to us within 30 days, no questions asked. You can contact hello@aceandtate.com or 020 3514 2272 (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm) in order to return a return label so you can return the glasses free of charge.
Currently we only ship to addresses in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, free of charge. However, we are hard at work on expanding our range of shipping countries in the near future.
We do not charge for shipping on any orders to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Your order will be delivered within 8-10 working days, but we try our best to get your new frames to you even sooner. As soon as we ship your order, you will receive an email with a Track & Trace code, so that you can keep watch on the progress of your new frames.

No, we do not compromise on quality.

Each Ace & Tate frame undergoes a rigorous production process involving at least 50 steps. The glasses are made of cellulose acetate; a material that is strong, lightweight and lasting. Finally, our synthetic lens, which comes from an established Dutch laboratory, is scratch-resistant, with anti-reflective coating and UV protection. This premium lens comes as standard with any Ace & Tate frame.

We’re proud to be involved in every step of Ace & Tate production – and often humbled by the people we work with. Our designers devise our collection in-house in our Amsterdam studio and the greater part of our frames are manufactured in northern Italy, at a familyowned workshop that has made frames by hand for over 50 years. A few styles (Lucy, Saul, Kat, Avery and Bradock) are produced in a factory in China that meets our high quality standards. The last piece of the procedure is the lens, which is custom-cut in an established Dutch laboratory, and fit to the frames.
